Elwood 3

An extension to an unassuming rendered single storey house in a leafy Elwood street aims to capture as much light as possible through utilizing the orientation of a south facing property. Instead of the traditional backyard, the living spaces are intertwined with two courtyards that create different atmospheres and uses depending on the time of day; voids and skylights capture Northern light where possible. A reduced palette of materials consists of reclaimed brick, timber and metal screens. The inclusion of a perforated staircase and mezzanine also aids in creating an open and spacious home despite the small building footprint.
